Exhibiting as part of an Artist’s Open House event this week has been a very special experience. Meeting and talking to people who have come to see the art and the artist is something I do not take for granted.
Communication is always an issue with art, which is in essence a wordless medium and which can so often be self-defeating when translated.
The insights gained and the revelation of my own intentions and inspirations are a thought provoking by-product of these events. They offer an opportunity for a genuine emotional connection with the audience and the chance to see the work through other eyes is very enlightening.
In discussing my art I find myself creating a narrative for the work that is only a small part of the larger picture and the viewer then also becomes a part of the narrative and often a new “owner’ of the piece, as it moves out into the wider world and creates a new story.
All art exists as a thing apart but like particle physics it changes when looked at and can perhaps only be said to exist when viewed or loved.
I have loved meeting the new audience and I hope you feel the love returned by the paintings on show.
The painting featured is a celebration of summer “Bermuda Sunrise and Rain, Prospero’s Star” , also a photo of it on show at the Open House Event and as always a Drawing Du Jour.
A big thank you to all who attended.
